- To contribute to the teaching mission of the university through general education courses, undergraduate to graduate degree programs focusing on Latin America
- To foster high quality research including publications and funded projects on Latin America across the university
- To serve as an outreach resource for public understanding of Latin America in the university, the community, the state, the nation, and the hemisphere
