Dr. Barbara (Bobbi) McKean serves as the Faculty Director of the Bachelor of General Studies degree program in the Colleges of Letters, Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and serves as the Faculty Liaison for Arts, Media, and Entertainment.

Bobbi is  an Associate Professor for the School of Theatre, Film and Television at the University of Arizona. She teaches courses in Acting, Theatre Appreciation, Educational Drama Methods, Improvisation and Collaborative Play Development and Popular Entertainment. She co-edited a textbook for that course, Popular Entertainment: Performance, Spectacle, Sport and Culture, in 2012-2013.

Her research focuses on the role of the teaching artist within arts education and community arts engagement. Her book, A Teaching Artist at Work, was published by Heinemann in 2006 and focuses on the preparation of beginning teaching artists. Dr. McKean served as program chair and chair for the Arts and Learning Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association and as co-editor for the Journal of Learning through the Arts.

Before teaching at the University level, Bobbi was a professional actress and teaching artist. She was Director of Education at the Seattle Children's Theatre for seven years and served as Artistic Director of the Seattle Peace Theatre, where she directed collaborations with young people and artists from Seattle, Moscow, Russia, Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Zurich, Switzerland.
