The Brazilian 2022 Presidential Election: History, Politics, and Crisis
with Arthur Ituassu (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro)
This talk will discuss the Brazilian 2022 electoral context from three theoretical perspectives. First, from a historical approach, it will examine the continuities and discontinuities of the moment concerning other electoral contexts in Brazil's recent democratic past. Second, it will analyze the political context around the presidential election, scheduled for October 2, 2022. And third, it will address the idea of a crisis of democracy in Brazil in a comparative approach with Latin American and other global contexts. Ultimately, the aim is to offer a general contextualization that may inform debates about the Brazilian political and democratic future.
