The Udall Center Fellows Program offers a semester off from normal teaching to allow for creative scholarship and pursuit of funds to further the Fellow’s research.
The reintegration of former combatants is standard practice after a peace agreement. Most government implement reintegration policies that provide individualized support to help former fighters such as a stipend, education, and job training. However, the Colombian government adopted an alternative ‘collective’ process for former fighters after their 2016 peace agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) that supported the settlement of ex-combatants in collectives with economic cooperatives. This project analyses the impact of Colombia’s collective reintegration on former combatants and effects on post-conflict stability. The main finding is that policy impact varied subnationally due to local variation in security conditions and former combatant relations with communities. These findings suggest the importance of differentiated and locally tailored reintegration policy to support stability after negotiated peace.
