  The University of Arizona Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES), Center for Latin American Studies (LAS), and the U.S. State Department's Bureau of  Education and Cultural Affairs present:

"Arizona-New Mexico Regional Global Teaching Dialogue: Resources and Opportunities for K-12 Educators"

Description:

The purpose of this program is to engage elementary and secondary educators in a regional dialogue about globalizing their schools and classrooms. The program will describe funded opportunities for K-12 educators and free resources for their classrooms so that they and their students can become more educated about the world around us.

Location:  The University of Arizona Student Union, two different rooms (participants to be assigned later)

Cost: Free and includes lunch

Date: Saturday, September 28

Participating teachers will receive a certificate for 6 professional development hours.

Saturday, September 28:

9:00 – 9:30: Registration - all participants...

9:30 – 10:00: Introductions           

10:00 – 11:00: Importance and Challenges in Teaching about the World. Discussion - program leaders and teacher-participants.

11:00 – 11:10: Break

11:10 – 12:10:

Room 1: Department of State Exchange Opportunities. Betsy Devlin-Folz (U.S. State Dept.) and teacher exchange alumni panel

Room 2: Important Issues/Resources in Teaching about Latin America. Clea Conlin, LAS

12:10 – 1:10:  Lunch and Networking

1:10 – 2:10:

Room 1: Important Issues/Resources in Teaching about the Middle East. Lisa Adeli, CMES

2:10 – 2:20: Break  

2:20 – 3:20:

3:20 – 4:00: Wrap-up: Questions, discussion, evaluation, distribution of PD certificates

(4:30 - 8:00: Continued discussion and dinner for International Studies Teacher Ambassadors only.)
