Juan Carlos Albarrán '07

Juan Carlos L. Albarrán is currently a Senior Lecturer at Miami University Ohio in the Global and Intercultural department and is a core faculty of the Latin America, Latino/a, and Caribbean Studies program. He finished his M.A. in Latin American Studies at the University of Arizona in 2007 and in 2008 joined Miami University Ohio as an instructor. In the year in between graduation and joining Miami University he worked with Lutheran Social Services, a refugee resettlement agency in Tucson. At Miami university he has created workshops to take students to Latin America to countries such as Brazil, Costa Rica, Panama, and Cuba his place of birth. More recently he directed a summer social entrepreneurship program sponsored by the State Department and the Department of Education that brings 20 students from several Latin American countries to the U.S. to study its institutions. The program is called the Study of United States Institutions by students' leaders (SUSI). This SUSI program is an opportunity to bring students leaders from many remote areas of Latin America to have an opportunity to see the U.S. and to grow professionally.
