South America

In this lesson, students will become somewhat familiar with two of the most important political figures in 20th century Latin America: Juan Domingo and Evita Peron. Students will explore the concept of "charisma" and how it applies to these popular political figures and also with politics in the United States.

This lesson plan focuses and history, where students will learn how to read timelines and make them as well. Students will be able to visualize Argentine history better through the use and analysis of timelines. This activity contains a timeline of Argentina and allows students to compare to timeline of the U.S. to see what differences or similarities there may be.

In this lesson, learn how to make a sweet from another culture. Students will learn how to make Dulce de Leche, a sweet from Argentina that can be a candy, spread, or ice cream topping.

This unit focuses on the country of Ecuador and includes two lesson plans regarding Five Themes of Geography and a a Map Search. Along with the two lesson plans, a story is included which helps students get an idea of Ecuador as a country. This unit gives a good general overview of Ecuador, including all the necessary handouts to complete the activities outlined in the lesson plans. This unit contains six lessons in which students will learn about the Tigua communities through paintings and indigenous life in general by reflecting on their own cultural practices and listening to personal experiences by Zsuzsa Nemeth. The purpose of this unit is to have students consider how Ecuadorians have altered their environment and for what reasons. Students will study the impact of these changes, as well as how people think about their environment. Students will look at Ecuador as a case study and then reflect on their own community, and how their environment is altered by humans. Overall the goal of this unit is to help students use their own observation to identify issues affecting their society and reflect on what should be done to minimize the clash between people and the environment. This unit contains 4 lesson plans, a power point and all the attached worksheets needed to complete the lessons.

In this lesson plan, students will understand why Argentina is a good place to search for dinosaur fossils and learn basic information about recent dinosaur excavations in Argentina.

Today, one of the most alarming examples of the world's environmental crisis is rapidly unfolding in Latin America, which is the destruction of the Amazon tropical rain forest. In this lesson, students participate in a problem solving exercise designed to develop critical thinking and problem solving in order to help solve these global issues. This lesson plan contains two lesson plans and additional information about South America including worksheets on different topics. In the first lesson, students will become familiar with physical maps and their functions, identify key mountain peaks of the Andes mountains of South America and use algebraic thinking to solve equations using positive and negative numbers. In the second lesson, students will become familiar with political maps and their functions, identify capital cities of South American countries and use algebraic thinking to solve equations using positive and negative numbers.
