Lets Take a Trip

In this project, students will produce a travel information packet with useful information about a region, country, city or town. They will get the opportunity to present their travel information to the class in a 7-10 minute group presentation. This project can take several days or spread out over a series of weeks.

A Mini-Organization of American States

In this lesson, students will become aware of the workings of the OAS and will stimulate their own mini-session of a General Assembly. The Organization of American States is a major part of the inter-American system and it's institutions. This exercise can be viewed from two perspectives, stressing either the conflict resolution nature of the OAS or the basic common identity of its member states.

Mapping the Languages of Latin America

In this lesson, students will learn about how Central and South America offer a more diverse series of cultures and nations than we often realize. They will learn about the many languages of Latin America in order to provide an idea of this diversity. Students will be able to place their language on a map to be able to visualize Latin America as a complex cultural area.

Mural on Post-Columbian Exchange

Students will illustrate the biological and ecological exchanges that began taking place as soon as Columbus made the Americas known to Europe. Commerce quickly led to the exchange of products which gave rise to new, interdependent material cultures. This project will aid in understanding how Latin America began to affect word culture.

People and Their Impact on the Environment

This unit focuses heavily on the environment and the impact humans have on their surrounding environment. The purpose of this unit is to have students consider how Ecuadorians have altered their environment and for what reasons. Students will study the impact of these changes, as ell as how people think about their environment. Students will look at Ecuador as a case study and then reflect on their own community. From their own observations, they will identify issues affecting their society and reflect on what should be done to minimize the clash between people and the environment. There are 4 lessons within this unit.

In this unit students will "visit" Ecuador and be introduced to a multitude of flora, fauna, people and traditions. Students will enjoy the differences and richness among the landscapes and people while building Spanish vocabulary. This contains 14 days of lessons but can be expanded or shortened as much as preferred.

Five Themes of Geography of Ecuador
