Frida Kahlo Workshop

When

9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., April 26, 2025

You're invited! Please join us for a morning of free professional development for all K-12 educators: in-service and pre-service teachers, educational aides, administrators, and librarians.

Today, Frida Kahlo remains a symbol of resilience, self-expression, and empowerment. Her home, La Casa Azul, is now a museum dedicated to her life and work. Through her self-portraits, Kahlo explores her identity as a woman, artist, Mexican, disabled person, and activist, constructing an iconic image. Led by Dr. Kevan Kiser-Chuc, this workshop will explore the artistic contributions and cultural impact of the work of Kahlo and how we can use this to encourage our students to explore the multifaceted aspects of identity. In studying Frida Kahlo’s life, we learn about art, history, identity, and perseverance, making her story both timeless and relevant. This workshop will explore the artistic contributions and cultural impact of the work of Frida Kahlo. Participants will create a hands-on portrait of Kahlo.

Curriculum materials and certificates of professional development will be provided along with a light breakfast.
