The deadline for Spring 2024 admissions is October 11, 2023. Please note that we only offer financial aid packages for fall admissions.

How to Apply

To apply, you must complete the University of Arizona Graduate College online application. Follow these steps:

  1. Create a GradApp account
  2. Complete your GradApp profile under "My Account".
  3. Select "Apply to a Program" from the sidebar.
  4. Choose "Degree Seeking" under application type and "Latin American Studies (MA)" under program of study.
  5. Choose the semester during which you wish to enter the program.
  6. Your application should now be initiated under "My Active Applications."

Admission Requirements

To be admitted you must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona or from an accredited college or university recognized by the University of Arizona
  • A grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • English proficiency (if not a native English-speaker you must have a TOEFL score)
  • See additional requirements for international applicants

Application Checklist

You are required to submit the following materials as part of your online application. Your application will not be processed until all required information is received.

<Academic Statement of Purpose>

Write a written statement (2 pages max) that covers your goals, objectives, and career plans in pursuing graduate studies. The Statement of Purpose should be uploaded in your online application in the ‘Supplemental Questions’ section.

<Letters of Recommendation>

Provide email addresses and contact information for two recommenders in the ‘Letters of Recommendation’ section of the online application.


Upload a current resumé or curriculum vitae (CV) as part of the online application in the ‘Supplemental Questions’ section.

<English Language Proficiency>

You are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if your native language is not English or if you have not received an undergraduate degree from an institution where English is the exclusive medium of instruction.

Submit official scores through ETS using institution code 4832.

<Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores (OPTIONAL)> 

GRE Scores are not required for admission. However, if you want, you may upload your unofficial GRE scores as part of the online application. You can also submit official scores on the GRE through ETS using institution code 4832.

Dual Degree Admissions

If you wish to apply to one of the dual M.A. degree programs, you will need to submit two applications to the Graduate College – one for each program you apply to.  In addition, any supplementary materials required by either department will need to be completed and submitted.
