"I've written about a wide range of topics in my short post-grad school career - from the U.S. military to botany - and the varied classes I was able to take through the Latin American Studies department definitely prepared me to examine such subjects in a critical, holistic way. Not only that, but the work experience I garnered during my three years in the program as a TA and as a communications assistant was invaluable."
Emily Ellis received her dual master's in Latin American Studies and Journalism in 2018. After a year covering Fort Huachuca and the U.S./Mexico Border for the Sierra Vista Herald/Review, she accepted a contracted communications position at the Oak Spring Garden Foundation, an environmental organization in rural Virginia that hosts residencies for artists, scholars and scientists from all over the world. She currently manages the foundation's blog, along with creating videos, newsletters and other content.
