Sandra Cecilia Madrid

Sandra Cecilia Madrid is pursuing a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies at the University of Arizona. Currently, she is employed at a local humanitarian aid organization assisting released migrants in reaching their final destination. As a first-generation student, Sandra Cecilia earned a dual bachelor's degree in Latin American Studies and Criminal Justice from the University of Arizona. During her undergraduate career, Sandra participated in a summer research program as a Ronald E. McNair scholar. Her research conducted a preliminary study on gender violence survivors by examining how survivor advocacy organizations engage with survivors of various backgrounds through an intersectional lens. Sandra’s passion for gender and peacebuilding was furthered while interning at the University of Arizona’s Domestic Violence Law Clinic where she worked alongside law students in assisting survivors of intimate partner violence with legal aid. Sandra Cecilia's current research interests include global migration and mobility; in specific, Sandra is interested in understanding the dynamic between gender and migration trends. After graduate school, Sandra would like to pursue a career in human rights and peacebuilding.
